This summer we recently completed the conversion of a large elegant lounge on the second floor of a period town house. A gallery of this project can be seen by hitting the "Project Gallery" button on the left
Our brief to create a family kitchen on the middle floor of a stunning Victorian townhouse so as to take advantage of the garden that was adjacent to the room.
Our wonderful clients wanted to be able to live in their kitchen mainly as it was the most important space to them and they could keep an eye on their little boy.
After a bit of running round with various kitchen designs they agreed on what they wanted and we got to work.
The first thing we tackled was the safe removal of the gas fireplace using our Corgi guy. Then we removed the plaster to uncover the brickwork. Our clients really were hoping the brick work would be attractive as they wanted to have an exposed brick inglenook to house their range cooker. Unfortunately it was not symmetrical and several of the bricks were damaged and crumbling and in our opinion would not have looked right. So we did a repair job and raised the height of the lintel to give sufficient space for the cooker.
This was then plaster boarded to give balance and skimmed, meanwhile the first fix gas, electric and rerouting of pipes was happening.
A high quality kitchen was chosen by our clients which we were thrilled to be putting in. It was shaker style solid oak, with all the toys and stunning walnut worktops. We set about fitting the cabinets, some had to be remade to allow for the chimney breast pillars. The Belfast sink was installed at the same time as the washing machine early in the morning so we could watch for potential leaks all day while we continued to fit the kitchen units, handles, pelmets and cornicing.
Finally came the time to fit the walnut worktops. At £1100 a piece we are not taking any chances and templated the whole kitchen using mdf. This template was then applied to the tops. They were fitted in a day with the cut out for the Belfast sink and routed drainer grooves along with the very fancy mixer tap which ran not only regular hot and cold water but also filtered water as well.
The range cooker was then swiftly installed by our ever so reliable gas man who always comes at the drop of a hat, good old Steve!
Our clients chose some stylish white tiles for the splash back which we were able to supply at trade so we got to work on tiling the splash backs and installing the above oven spot lights, then soon after the new plug sockets were second fixed and job was well on the way.
We relined the walls in lining paper as they were not in great condition and it cost less than replastering then redecorated the whole room in customer chosen colours.
Finally some reclaimed floor boards were sourced and laid on the floor. Staining and vanishing was the final job.
This is a great way of demonstrating most of our skills, all be it not an overly large job, most tasks we come up against were involved in this very very enjoyable job, working with very pleasant clients indeed! Thanks to you both.
